Overview
Pertt’s Bike Rentals was a local bike rental company serving the Twin Falls, Idaho area. The business offered visitors and locals an accessible way to explore the Snake River Canyon and surrounding trails without needing to own or transport their own bikes.
The existing brand had a strong connection to the local landscape. Its hand-illustrated logo depicted a cyclist riding along the Snake River, creating an identity that felt distinctly tied to the area.
For the website, I wanted to build on that foundation rather than simply reproduce it. The goal was to create a digital experience that captured the sense of movement, exploration, and adventure at the heart of the brand.
Tools Used:
The Challenge
The website needed to do more than present a catalog of rental bikes. It needed to help visitors understand the experience Pertt’s offered, from choosing a bike to finding a trail worth exploring.
There was also a considerable amount of information to organize. Visitors needed to be able to browse different bikes and explore local trails while quickly identifying options that matched their needs and experience level.
At the same time, the brand’s beautiful hand-drawn identity presented an opportunity to create something more memorable than a conventional rental website.
The challenge was to balance personality and exploration with usability, while creating a website that could accommodate an expanding collection of bikes and trails.
The Solution
The centerpiece of the design was an interactive interpretation of the existing logo. Inspired by the layered environments and subtle movement of the game Firewatch’s website, I separated the original illustration into individual layers and recreated the scene digitally.
As visitors scrolled through the page, the layers moved at different speeds to create a parallax effect. The result transformed the original static illustration into a living scene and gave the homepage an immediate sense of movement and place.
The Outcome
The finished website gave Pertt’s a digital presence that reflected the personality of the business and its connection to the Twin Falls landscape.
The interactive homepage turned an existing brand asset into a memorable web experience, while the custom content system provided a scalable foundation for the bike catalog and trail information.
The project was an opportunity to combine visual design, interaction, UX, and development in a single experience, creating a website that not only communicated what Pertt’s offered, but invited visitors to imagine themselves out exploring.
